How Does Reflexology Work?

Reflexology is a practice that involves the application of pressure to specific pressure points or reflex zones that correspond to organs and glands in other parts of the body. The application of pressure to these points is done to promote a healing response in the corresponding organs.

Our foot reflexology and body work sessions can help to alleviate various ailments in the body including:

  • Back pain

  • Stress and stress related ailments

  • Digestive disorders

  • Sports injuries

  • Arthritis

  • Menstrual disorders

  • Insomnia

  • Multiple sclerosis

  • Hormonal imbalances

  • Migraines and tension headaches and much more

Reflexology vs massage

While a reflexology session may seem like regular massage, the two are different.

A regular massage is given by a massage therapist who works to manipulate the muscles and other soft tissues to relieve pain and tightness and achieve relaxation. The massage also helps to improve blood circulation.

Our reflexology and acupressure sessions are administered by qualified reflexologists. The reflexologist applies pressure to specific areas of the feet or body to promote healing organs in other parts of the body that correspond to those reflex zones. The effects of reflexology and acupressure are therefore not isolated to the part of the body being manipulated but will be felt in the targeted organs as well.

What to expect

Sessions can last anywhere between 30 and 60 minutes depending on the treatment sought and whether you are combining the therapy with other spa treatments. Our reflexologists begin every session with a consultation to learn more about you, your medical history and what you hope to achieve through the session. This information enables the reflexologist to customize the treatment to help you meet your goals.

Your feet or body will be assessed and various zones stimulated to identify any areas of tension or tenderness. The reflexology session often includes a brisk massage to help warm up the muscles and soft tissue prior to applying reflexology and acupressure techniques to promote healing. We use a wide variety of tools to ensure our patients get the most out of each session.

Many people find our reflexology and body work sessions to be quite relaxing in addition to providing healing.

Why you should seek a certified reflexologist and massage therapist

Many massage therapists have basic working knowledge of reflexology. They may even apply some reflexology techniques during the session. However, this cannot be compared to a reflexology session where specific parts of the body are targeted in order to achieve healing.

Our reflexologists are certified professionals with specialized knowledge and experience in reflexology and massage therapy. They understand how to stimulate the reflexes in the different reflex zones to achieve the specific outcome in a particular part of the body.
